Overseas Pilot Licence Recognition

Overseas Licence Validation for Private Flying

Special Pilot Licence

Pilot's visiting Australia only wishing to conduct private flying operations should consider a Special Pilot Licence. This is ideal if you wish to make a once-off flying trip around Australia during your stay. It is issued on the basis of your overseas licence, provided it is current.

Should you wish to do this, you must bring your log book, current pilots licence and valid medical certificate from your home country when you visit Australia and we can then help you complete the paperwork. You will also need to conduct a flight review with us in order for your tempoary Australian special licence to be validated.

If you only wish to conduct a flight around Sydney (for example) then one of our experienced instructors can accompany you in the right hand seat and assist with radio procedures whilst you fly over our beaches and the Harbour Bridge!

Certificate of Validation

This is a short-term authorisation, valid for a period up to three months. It is tailored to a specific operation (eg, a type conversion).

Converting foreign pilot licences

As a general rule, pilots seeking to convert a foreign pilot licence to an Australian flight crew licence must pass a Flight Rules and Air Law written examination/s and a flight test as well as obtain an Australian medical certificate. The conversion of a rating, such as for instrument or night flying, usually involves an additional exam and/or flight test. The examinations/tests mentioned must be completed with a person/persons approved by CASA. This means that tests can only be conducted in Australia.
